Today is the feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus who is also known as the Little Flower. At yesterday’s mass, Fr. Jim Ferry asked us to offer today’s mass for our missioners or those who go out to spread the Holy Word of God.
In a way, we are all called to mission. In our daily activities and lives, we are all asked to be a reflection of God’s Love and mercy to all whom we encounter. We can do our share in spreading the Good News in our homes, workplaces, and communities.
In the Gospel reading of September 21, 2007, the story is told of Jesus telling Matthew, then still a tax collector, to “Follow me.” Bishop Ongtioco shared his reflection on this and he zeroed in on the fact that when Matthew was told just that, Matthew didn’t ask: “Where? When? How much do you pay?”
But it isn’t that easy to just follow, right? We sometimes fret over certain things, refuse to give up our present priorities and we end up not following the Lord totally but only half-way, if at all.
Still, we strive and struggle from day to day, trusting that the Lord’s grace will be enough for us and that in the end, we will allow Him to use us totally to always give Him the glory that He rightly deserves.
On this Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, say a prayer for those in mission. Say a prayer for yourself too that you will be an instrument too for spreading God’s Love and Word.
