Things We Can Learn from Mother Mary

Last March 16, 2007, I attended a Lenten Recollection and Musical at Christ the King Church in Greenmeadows. One of the speakers was Bishop Raul Martirez. His talk focused on three things or three words that were prominent in Mother Mary’s life and how we should take her as our model in our daily living.

The three words were:

1. Fiat – “Let it be done to me according to your word.” – this refers to Mother Mary’s faith and obedience.

2. Magnificat – “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord.” – this focuses on Mother Mary’s humility and gratitude.

3. Stabat – “At the foot of the cross, stood the mother of Jesus.” – this shows that Mary suffered too. This shows her total commitment to the will of the Father.

So as we all go through life, we may want to keep the above words in mind so that we can strive to be better Christians and better people.
