Focus On What You Have

As we live our daily lives, it is very easy to get worried or fret about things. We worry about our health, about things happening around us, and of course, we worry especially about money or financial matters.

Worrying about money is understandable. In this world that we live in, you will not be able to do a lot of things if you did not have the needed cash.

While it is alright to think about ways and means to provide for our daily needs, it does not help us any to worry too much about it. After all, we don’t accomplish anything by fretting.

This morning, I was reading the Gospel passage for today and I was particularly struck by the following verse found in Mark 8:14-21:

“Why are you talking about the loaves that you are short of? Do you not see or understand? Are your minds closed? Have you eyes that don’t see and ears that don’t hear? And do you not remember when I broke the five loaves among five thousand? How many baskets full of leftovers did you collect?” They answered, “Twelve.” “And having seven loaves for the four thousand, how many wicker baskets of leftovers did you collect?” They answered, “Seven.” Then Jesus said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

The Lord has done great things for us. For as long as we strive to be obedient and exert effort to do His will, we will be on the right path. He can take what little you or I have and make it multiply beyond our wildest dreams. Nothing is too small for the Lord to work on and we should trust Him to provide for all our needs and more. He has already given us so much. He will not start withholding from us now.

So please focus on what you have. We have all been blessed and gifted immensely.
