Today is Trinity Sunday. Catholics recognize that there are three Persons in One God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In the mass that I attended this morning, Bishop Raul Martires states that the Blessed Trinity is not a “mystery to be solved but a mystery to be lived.”
Today, May 31, 2007, the Catholic Church commemorates the Feast of the Visitation. This refers to the time when Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth when she found out that Elizabeth was heavy with child in her old age.
Just this summer, my family and I went on a vacation to the United States. As I was reviewing our schedule, it was quite complicated to take everyone’s activities into account as I was fixing the date for our trip.
“Come, O Holy Spirit:
enlighten my understanding
to know your commands;
strengthen my heart
against the wiles of the enemy;
inflame my will…
I have heard your voice,
and I don’t want to harden
my heart by resisting,
by saying ‘later…tomorrow.”
Nunc coepi! Now!
Lest there be no tomorrow for me!
O, Spirit of truth and wisdom,
Spirit of understanding and counsel,
Spirit of joy and peace!
I want what you want,
I want it because you want it,
I want it as you want it,
I want it when you want it.”
Here’s a prayer that you can recite daily. As with most of the prayers that I am sharing here, I got a copy of this from my mother:
I was at a wake yesterday and in the homily of the priest (Fr. Arlo?), he told those who attended the mass not to pray for a long life. It was quite surprising, as most people (myself included) would usually pray that we be blessed with a long life.
In today’s Gospel reading, we hear about Mary Magdalene meeting Jesus for the first time after Jesus had died on the cross. In a recollection that I attended during the Lenten Season, Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ, gave a very interesting talk about making the resurrection a present reality.
This prayer was shared to me by my now 82-year old mother. She got a copy of it from a birthday celebration from an old friend — old as in “from way back” and old too as in “advanced in years.” I don’t know who wrote this prayer — as with most prayers that I have come across, use, or even feature on this site — so if you are the author of any of the prayers shared with readers here, please let me know so we may give the proper acknowledgment.
Last March 16, 2007, I attended a Lenten Recollection and Musical at Christ the King Church in Greenmeadows. One of the speakers was Bishop Raul Martirez. His talk focused on three things or three words that were prominent in Mother Mary’s life and how we should take her as our model in our daily living.
